Vanity Doesn’t Produce Obedience

|

A story of faith linked to the single “Face of Love”

Why did I feature this illustration for the single cover for “Face of Love?” I love the day Leo, and I were in this unique desert spot in Borrego Springs near San Diego. We quickly got out of the car and filmed video footage for “Face of Love.” Cars buzzed past. I wasn’t even dressed for filming. But we did it anyway, keen to produce a film clip for this song as Jesus pressed and urged us to do so.

This world snags us into serving vanity. It values the beauty on the outside of a person and not the heart. I know Jesus looks at our heart and values obedience. Was it a test that day out in the desert? Probably!

If I truly want to bring others into a relationship with Jesus and encourage those who are in a relationship with Him to keep enduring, which I do, then vanity and self-preservation aren’t on the list. Jesus allowed himself to be humiliated and shamed on the cross for our eternal freedom. So, getting out of the car and agreeing to be filmed was a definite “Yes!”

Yes, I thought about my dirty hair and having no makeup and probably not being dressed in the best attire for a film clip. But I didn’t let those thoughts dominate me. I trusted the Lord that it would be OK. I thought about the cost Jesus had made so I could escape death and the trickery of the Devil and his demons, which I sing about in this song.

My illustration on the cover for the “Face of Love” single is an illustration of this day and where we filmed the video clip for the song. The mountains reminded me of the ever-present strongholds in this world that keep us from serving the Lord Jesus and knowing our Savior. Jesus conquered those strongholds and the grave when He conquered the flesh that doesn’t want to obey our Heavenly Father and Lord. And Jesus, the Lord, conquered our enemy of Satan and his spiritual powers of wickedness and demons when He was lifted on the cross—the sinless Lamb that was slain.

Jesus paid our ransom. God in human flesh to release His children who are flesh and blood from our kidnapper, Satan. God is love, and Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for our freedom. He “hung in humiliation” on the cross—”Hung in humiliation,” lyrics from my single, “Come Lord Jesus Come.” That day at Borrego Springs, I stepped out of my comfort zone.  In a small way, I shared in Jesus’ suffering instead of covering myself with the world’s ways and vanity.
