Testimony of Deliverance:
My Faith Journey
Birdwood, South Australia
I had cried out alone in my bedroom to understand the reasons I didn’t have true love or happiness, like I had labored to have for years. I was a singer-songwriter, performing in the music industry in Adelaide. But I gave it up to survive the loneliness with Leo traveling for work and the exhaustion it brought raising our three daughters without him on our 80-acre property.
That’s when the Devil sent a man to destroy me. He was part of a satanic coven in Adelaide and used witchcraft and spells with his friends and wife to have me become possessed by many evil spirits of great power.
I cried out again, this time to God of the heavens. And He answered and said, “I will fight this battle for you,” and showed me the war against the whole human race—the mighty dragon, Satan, the Devil (as described in Revelation), fighting to keep people from entering through the gates of heaven, which is what he had done to me.
I had cried out to know the meaning of life, and now Jesus has taught me. He performed many miracles and wonders, so I would believe and trust in Him after the terrible things these people did to me.
Today, Leo and I live in San Diego after the Lord Jesus asked us to move here in 2008, four years after my glorious escape from trickery and demon-possession. I am now a born-again believer serving Christ. Jesus asked us to sell our home, land, and possessions after ministering to our hometown and family and friends about the great and wonderful things Jesus did to save me. Some listened, but most did not. We have remained in California because the Lord Jesus promised I would write my testimony book here.
The Book in Progress: California
In 2004, I began writing my testimony book in Australia, the same year the Lord Jesus delivered me and gave me new life in Him, born again by His Spirit and grace.
But it is a difficult story to write. The story of betrayal and trickery by my music manager, his wife, and friends whom I thought were my friends. To remember the details and write them accurately and truthfully so others are warned and understand. To describe their spells and hypnosis by the power of Satan, the Devil, and demons who worked with them. And then, to be captured and convey how terrible and real it was. To finally give justice to the miraculous things Jesus did for my glorious escape!
It is hard to leave your country and home and come to a land in the United States where festivals like Halloween are taken seriously as mere fun and fantasy. When, hidden beneath that surface, is that war at hand to destroy and ruin many people’s lives for all eternity without Christ.
Read here how Jesus got me to believe I would write my book in California, which is still an ongoing project, through a simple fridge magnet. [yet to write]
Across Continents: Serving Further Abroad
In February 2018, I led a three-day women’s conference, taught the book of Colossians, and led worship in Soroti, Uganda. It was the first of its kind. Women walked for miles and even slept on the church floor. At the conference, there was so much joy! —rejoicing in the Lord, hearing His word, and worshiping Him. And Jesus worked alongside me, healing and teaching through my words and hands.
I was so nervous to go back to Africa. In 2009, Leo and I had taken our two daughters on a mission trip to Sudan, soon after arriving in San Diego. Leo had taught in a Bible college in Tonj, and I worked in the clinic and led worship. In the evenings, Leo and I traveled to the nearby villages with the pastor of the church and to the compound where we stayed. Leo taught them the Bible and interpreted their dreams, while I led worship and delivered a woman from demon possession. This was our first experience in the continent of Africa. It opened my eyes to poverty, sickness, and persecution.
I became terribly sick at the end of our trip and during our flight out of Tonj, Sudan. It delayed our return to the United States, and then I suffered from an undiagnosed parasite for months. We also faced persecution for our faith. I didn’t want to go back and face the challenges again. But Jesus used an African hut ornament to turn my heart and remind me of my love for the people in Africa, to help me trust Him to return.
Only months before the Lord asked Leo and me to sell our home and move to San Diego, I flew from Australia to Murrieta, California, to attend a worship conference where He spoke powerfully to me. Now, in 2017, I was back here for a missions conference after obediently selling the home that I loved and leaving my land.
At the missions conference, I met a man at one of the mission tables. He was the pastor of a church in Soroti, Uganda, and he was looking for women to teach the women in his congregation. Leo shared with him that I had previously led a women’s conference in Haiti, but I told the pastor that I didn’t want to go back to Africa.
As this pastor tried to convince me to lead a women’s conference in Uganda in his church, I saw the African hut ornament hanging on his mission stand. It made me remember the people, their children, and how much I loved them and wanted to minister to them. Jesus was working in my heart. But I didn’t want to go back to Africa on just a whim!
So, I said to this pastor, “If you give me that hut, I go back to Africa.”
He said, “Oh, it is a very valuable gift.”
I knew he wasn’t talking about the African hut ornament. He meant the honor and gift of teaching others the Word of God.
The pastor gave me the hut he had brought with him, made by someone’s precious hands there in Africa. And I knew I must keep my word to go— for Jesus had been in the midst of us.
Faithful Africa Missions
For the next three consecutive years, I traveled with Leo to Soroti, Uganda, and led a three-day conference for women, teaching and leading worship. It was a long flight to Entebbe, then another seven-hour drive to Soroti with only one toilet stop!
In Sudan, Africa, I had expected great faith from the people I thought were on the front lines. But they were just like me, vulnerable, tempted, and desperately needing Christ. I leaned so heavily on Jesus when I went back to Africa and Uganda. I had no confidence in myself, but I trusted the mission—knowing I was here because Jesus Himself had sent me to teach these precious women He loved.
Jesus wanted me to tell these women to know how much He loved them, and making them wise by teaching them Christ and God’s Word, which I did. I not only taught them God’s Word, but I also led worship with the songs Jesus had given me to sing and declare.
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts – Colossians 3:16
God Confirms His Calling
In February 2018, in Soroti, Uganda, I taught Colossians and led worship. After my first teaching session, I prayed to the Lord Jesus and asked if anyone present needed healing; He would heal them. And He did. After I finished, a joyous commotion broke out to my left.
The daughter and friend of an older woman were ecstatic. This woman had been bent over for years and could suddenly walk and stand up straight. The Lord Jesus had confirmed before this large crowd of witnesses and women He had sent me to teach and lead in worship. I was the Lord’s preacher and teacher and had crossed land and sea to be with them.
(Hebrews 2:4: “And God confirms the message by signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever He chose.”)

God’s Continuing Work in Uganda: My Continued Service
In September 2019, I taught 1 Peter in Soroti, Uganda. In March 2020, before COVID struck, I went again and used my pottery wheel and clay to teach a surrendered life to Christ, and I taught through the book of Galatians. After the final day of teaching, the president of Uganda announced he was closing the borders.
Leo and I barely made it back to the United States. We caught the last flight out of Entebbe on the airline that had previously forbidden us from flying because we were missionaries. But God will miraculously use all things for His purposes and plans. Even those things that do not glorify Him.
But before I taught the women in Uganda, Jesus had prepared me by taking me to Haiti first.
Flashback: God’s Preparation in Haiti
Leo had been serving in Haiti for a few years before I came with him. He was teaching at the Bible college in Port-au-Prince. At night, he would go into the streets or, on Sundays, into the mountains to preach at a church there. It was dangerous. One Sunday, men with machetes stopped their car as they headed up into the mountains. They threatened their lives unless they turned around. But miraculously, peace came over these men, and they let Leo and his companions through.
In 2019, I wrote a Bible study for these women in the mountains near Port-au-Prince in Haiti. The study was on the book of Philippians, and they received it right before the terrible riots began. I am sure the Lord Jesus used the study, translated into their language by the church pastor, to strengthen their faith and hope.
I recorded four worship songs fitting for the Philippians study. I recorded two of these songs stripped of all harmonization, with only a few instruments, hand clapping, and sticks. It was to encourage the women to worship the Lord Jesus with whatever they did or didn’t have.
So often, when I’ve gone to third-world countries and into poverty, worship leaders covet the guitar I am using. Or the lights and amplification of the West—the “show” and performance they see on social media. But it’s not to be this way; worship is a state of heart. And we are thankful for what the Lord has allowed us to have or not have. We don’t beg or scheme for more. And I wanted these women alone in the mountains to know their worship was good enough without all those other things. So I led by example and stripped my songs to encourage their music and songs to come from their hearts to Jesus.
But before writing the Philippian study in 2019 for the women of Haiti in the mountains, I actually went to Cap-Haïten in Haiti with Leo in 2015 and again in 2017.
In 2015, Leo was going to Cap-Haïten after one of his students from the Bible college in Port-au-Prince became a pastor of a church there. He asked Leo to come and lead a Marriage Conference. Many in his congregation were unmarried and with children. The Lord spoke clearly to my heart and said, “I want you to go with him.” Jesus wanted me to go and teach the women.
It certainly tested my faith. A multiple-couple wedding was planned for after the marriage conference for those unmarried. Leo asked them to separate before he came to teach. I searched high and low for wedding dresses, veils, and shoes to bring with me for the ceremony. I also prepared my lessons for the women in the congregation of this Cap-Haitian church.
I taught them how to do a Bible study together on Jesus’ promises in Matthew. I also taught them what it looks like to be a godly woman living her life through the Word of God. Jesus gave me remarkable analogies that touched hearts and turned them to Christ.
Returning to Haiti
In 2017, I returned to Haiti and Cap-Haïten with Leo. This time I ran a women’s conference and taught the book of Ruth. I will never forget one woman. She used to be a Mambo, a Vodou high priestess, and Jesus completely changed her life. We became dear friends, and I saw Jesus shine His love through her eyes. I later learned this woman left Haiti and went to Chile to minister there.
At the end of our Men and Women conferences, Leo and I taught the congregation the book of Esther together. They had never heard it before. We had so much fun, with the pastor interpreting our words as Leo and I watched the reactions of the people listening intently. They all cheered at the end, so excited and exhilarated that the villain had been slain and God’s people set free.
I suppose it was too close to home: the injustice and poverty I saw around them. Yet every Sunday and whenever we had teaching, they came, dressed in the finest clothes they owned. It truly astounded me: the ironed, pressed shirts and dresses. At times, I felt the underdressed—the woman from the West whom I assured them was not rich but had left all for the will of God and to serve Christ.
After teaching in Haiti, I traveled and taught the women in Uganda for the next three consecutive years, after meeting the pastor of the Soroti church with the African hut.
God’s Continued Work
Through all my mission trips to Sudan, Uganda, and Haiti, I have kept writing my book and stayed committed to finishing what the Lord Jesus has commissioned me to do.
Since 2020, I have also written and illustrated three children’s books, which I am now finalizing for release.
As a songwriter, I have not stopped writing songs and recording them in my studio. And I will continue to do so, as I know it is the Lord’s heart for me.
These are just some of the significant things Jesus has done through me. But I’ve spoken to many people in many other places and edified Christ. We are the precious lost coins Jesus came to find. (Luke 15:8-10). And the Lord Jesus is using His church to find and teach them is Word in truth and Spirit.
Luke 15:8-10 NIV
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Be the First to Read My Book
My demon possession was not my fault. It happened because I inadvertently stepped into a witchcraft circle at a party my music manager had invited me to. From that moment on, there was no way of delivering myself from their spells and the power of the Devil. And my perpetrators and murderers knew it.
I was an idolater, like everyone else—worshipping the things of this world and spiritually blind. But that is how we all are before Christ comes to rescue and redeem us from the kingdom of darkness and transfer us into His light and kingdom of Jesus Christ.
It was God’s will for this to happen. He allowed it, as He did for the man who was born blind. It was so I could tell others of the wondrous things Jesus Christ did for me, His glory and power for others! (John 9:1-41).
