Story Behind the Praise
“If you are not disciplined – and everyone undergoes discipline – then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.” – Hebrews 12:8 NIV
In Hebrews Chapter 12, it tells us that we are undergoing training. (Hebrews 12:11) It’s a choice – to be trained, or, it’s a choice to remain rebellious and unruly. “I do not know you,” Jesus will say, “Depart from me you who practice lawlessness.” (Matthew 7:23) He will tell those on the end day who did not listen to His Word and teachings. To be disciplined, is a gift, a gift from a loving Heavenly Father, to His child.
At a place where the Lord Jesus brought me when He was delivering me from demon-possession, He told me that I had to be Holy if I wanted to remain in heaven with Him, after I passed from this earth. At the time, it didn’t make sense to me. I knew Jesus wanted me to be with Him. But I also knew, I wasn’t holy.
In Hebrews Chapter 12, verse 10, it says – “God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in His holiness.” I was on a journey in becoming a new creation, when Jesus had spoken this to me. I was learning about the gospel, and the desires of my Heavenly Father, to be like Him. I was unable, by myself to be holy. But granted a new life by receiving Jesus’ Spirit – the Holy Spirit, well that would change everything. I would be born again by God from above, and given the power to overcome – Christ in me, hope of glory!
At the beginning of this Chapter of Hebrews 12, we are told to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” Entanglement and sin is the path the Devil desires to ensure us on. The Devil is still trying, even to a believer of Christ Jesus, to keep us on a path that will not reap the benefits of our Savior and a life in Him. Watch out, and don’t let yourselves be deceived, Jesus commonly said to His disciples.
The road with Jesus is narrow. It requires obedience, and surrendering to Jesus and His desires instead of ours. But it also is an incredibly blessed path. Narrow and blessed, and it’s the reason I was led by the Holy Spirit to write this song. This sudden burst of praise came out of me oneway, and I took not of it. I recorded quickly its words and melody into my dictaphone. It is a narrow blessed way, the narrow way to heaven, which requires holiness. It requires responding to God’s discipline in our life through trials and obstacles and whatever He might use to keep us to His Son, Jesus Christ and the truth of God’s Word.
The narrow, blessed way,
The narrow, blessed way,
The narrow, blessed way to home
You’ve given me Your light,
Your light that lights my way
You’ve given me Your steps to walk
I’m on my way to heaven
Following the One who died so I could live
I’m on my way to heaven
Following the One who died so I could live
The narrow, blessed way,
The narrow, blessed way,
The narrow, blessed way to home
You’ve given me Your light,
Your light that lights my way
You’ve given me Your steps to walk
There’s going to be no compromise
In this person’s life
I’m standing firm, until You return, Jesus
I couldn’t let go, You’re my saving grace
I’m on my way to heaven
Following the One who died so I could live
I’m on my way to heaven
Following the One who died so I could live
